How to Work Out if Trends are for You

milanfashion-4

Fashion is constant and constantly changing: a fickle and tricky beast, one minute it’s stars, the next stripes. Like a rollercoaster without a start or stop, fashion just keeps on going with highs, lows and the occasional breakdown thrown in for good measure. So when trends rock around each season it is a smorgasbord of lovely newness and a terrifyingly daunting prospect at the same time. How do you know which trends are for you? Here are Earth, Wit and Style’s top trend buying tips:

  1. You will instinctively be drawn to certain patterns. If you are of a more dramatic leaning then fall head first into this season’s crop of stripes and Beetlejuice yourself up. Same for geometric and angular patterns. If you are naturally drawn to a paisley or a floral then you may find yourself naturally steering clear of the stripes.
  2. Certain textures will float your fashion pedalo more than others. Love linen? You are more than likely a natural sort of gal who wouldn’t be seen dead in a peplum dress.
  3. Consider the wearability of what you are buying: is it appropriate for your lifestyle? A kimono is a great wardrobe item which also has the added downside of huge sleeves which drag into anything and everything: food, hedges, water.
  4. Only buy things that look like they already belong in your wardrobe. This can be hard if you are stuck in a rut or inhabit a comfort zone so big it could be its own country, but somewhere in the depths of your wardrobe is a true reflection of your personality and style. Like mining for gold, you’ve just got to dig deep to re-discover it.
  5. If in doubt leave it out. You know the feeling: should I? Shouldn’t I? Fair enough if it’s the last chocolate in the box and there is definitely no point leaving a thimble full in the bottom of the wine bottle but when it comes to clothes there is a natural instinct there which cannot be denied. Ignore at your peril.
