We purposefully left jewellery off the Earth, Wit and Style fashion platter for a few months and are only ready to talk about it now. Why? Jewellery has the power to light up a room and the proper stuff is incredibly personal, evocative and oft linked to life milestones: weddings, birthdays, children turning up on the scene. The cheaper costume stuff has the power to turn your skin green.

Jewellery has its own trends much like fashion: the recent trend for stacking arm candy was cumbersome and time consuming. We’ve seen the pendulum swing from statements necklaces back to fine jewellery artfully layered down the décolletage, from statement rings to finer rings sitting below and above the knuckle and don’t even get us started on stacking bracelets. What woman has time to artfully stack a boatload of bracelets up her arm in the morning whilst wrestling a toddler and a baby out of the house?

But what happens when you just want a jewellery wardrobe that just works? Here are Earth, Wit and Style we heard you, our wonderful readers, so a run-down of what we consider jewellery wardrobe basics will follow. We’ll be covering statement necklaces, earrings, rings and pendants, what to do to commemorate the birth of a child and how to re-purpose family jewels. We will also be looking at how to care for your jewels and stop them tarnishing.  Can’t say fairer than that.
