Half term is approaching and although we can’t guarantee Indian Summer days, we can point you to local places to head for free outdoor fun, if we’re spared the rain….
These two gorgeous woodland walks are on our doorstep, Hetchell Woods Nature Reserve and the River Wharfe from Leys Lane in Boston Spa.
Both of these walks are accessed really easily and I, like you, will have passed them on the main road tens of times before eventually taking time to turn off and explore them with the kids. SO beautiful this time of year as the leaves change colour. Just make sure you have your outdoor togs on and wellies or walking boots and I assure you it will be a pleasure… time well spent !
There are lots of bridges, banks, and water for the kids to explore and scramble through, and even a tyre swing in Hetchell Woods for them to enjoy!
The Hetchell Wood walk is accessed from the A58 near Bardsey. There is a lay by on the left where you can park, once you have passed the turning to Bardsey village on your right.
The River Wharfe walk can be found by turning down Leys Lane opposite Clifford Moor Road in Boston Spa, and parking on the verge both have maps at the start to help you with your route.
Even if you only have a hour or two, or it’s late in the afternoon and you haven’t had your daily dose of fresh air, before the clocks goes back there is still that window to pop in the car either to The Stray or Valley Gardens in Harrogate with a football or the scooters.
The River Wharfe in Wetherby is another favourite. You’re never too old to make a splash with stones, and wellies enable year round paddling if the river’s low enough !
