Here at Earth, Wit and Style we have been racking our brains to try and find something that puts the fear of God into women more than having to get their bodies out on holiday. There is something universally horrifying about exposing your flesh to a beach full of strangers but to be honest when you actually hit the beach, lay down on that sun lounger and allow the sun to seep into your bones, no-one cares.

The trick is to get the best fitting swimwear possible. This will help you stand taller and feel more body confidant. An ill-fitting bikini or swimming costume will not only annoy the hell out of you but it will look terrible as well. This ain’t about size, ladies, this is about the fit. And confidence is key:

Choose your pattern wisely – the smaller the pattern, the bigger you’ll look. Patterns roughly the size of a fist will work wonders. Avoid ditsy florals like the plague.

Sit down, stand and move in your chosen swimsuit/bikini before you buy. Then remove and look for red welts which are tell-tale signs you need to size up.

Think about straps – the better the strap, the more support for your girls. Less strap, better tan lines but the girls may very well be in free fall.
