Rule Britannia! We have so much more to offer than Fish & Chips and Sunday Roast…..
A quintessentially English village pub with rooms has been named ‘the best restaurant in the world’ in an international poll, with the (not so English sounding but Oxfordshire established) Le Manoir Quatre Saisons, coming in at second place!
The Black Swan in Oldstead, North Yorkshire, is the first British restaurant to win the title since the customer review awards began on Tripadvisor in 2012. The travel website said the winner was selected based on the millions of reviews and opinions collected on the site over a 12-month period. These awards differ from others as are based on feedback from guests and not from the opinions of a small judging panel.
It is run by the UK’s youngest Michelin-starred chef Tommy Banks, who won the accolade four years ago at the age of 24, and his brother James and Earth, Wit & Style have had the pleasure of enjoying The Black Swan’s hospitality in the past. This family-owned pub on the edge of the North York Moors near Thirsk, which boasts their Michelin star and 4 AA Rosettes, also offers THE most incredible dining experience, service and surroundings along with beautifully furnished rooms at the restaurant and a more recently acquired and refurbished ‘villa’ in the village. It has a place on everyone’s Bucket List, and we imagine there maybe little ‘room at the Inn’ until well into 2018 so get planning your visit!
