Online searches for velvet have increased 400% over the last six months and is in fact the most searched for fabric….Interior designers are seeing many more requests for velvet from their clients who are keen to incorporate it into their schemes and we can see why….Sumptuous and glamorous it has totally shaken off its old fashioned image and is being used in striking ways in both contemporary to classic interiors.
Velvet beds and sofas/footstools are some of the most covetable ways to bring the look home….But that said we are definitely seeing a return to velvet as a fabric choice for curtains and cushions too.
Designers Guild have the glam cushion box firmly ticked with its stunning collection in dark colourways combined with contemporary florals ….they are a really simple way to add drama to a plain sofa or armchair.
While those of us old enough to remember velvet from the first time around will recall chocolate brown and clarets as being the popular choice…. These days rich jewel tones, tobaccos, mustards and forest greens are the go to colours . We are also seeing more patterned velvets coming through and the stunning new collection by Linwood is certainly causing a stir for all the right reasons….
We know all too well that clients usually have to work with an existing scheme so a simple way to incorporate velvets is to add cushions or a small upholstered footstool to instantly add impact and texture. Or how about adding some beautifully tactile velvet shades to an existing table or floor lamp? Heathfield as ever have some beautiful neutral velvets that add a contemporary twist to a traditional fabric.
Really the possibilities are endless and let’s be honest it’s the perfect weather for adding some sumptuous texture to our home as we spend more time cosying up indoors.
