He parted company with Cloudy Bay to head up his own winery after the 2009 vintage and this is his new signature wine. It displays all the hallmarks of top end Marlborough Sauvignon (as indeed does Cloudy Bay) but, in this case, with far greater wine making sensitivity and flare. What you get above and beyond Cloudy Bay is an amplified depth of palate and vibrant plethora of citrus, gooseberry, kiwi and guava fruit notes, plus an astounding array of herbaceous and asparagus hints.
The feel of the wine is one of complexity and tongue cleansing freshness that accents a truly artisan take on a very well known wine style. Chipping in a shade less expensive than Cloudy Bay too, while not necessarily being an everyday wine, this really delivers when you wish to lavish someone with a quality gift, or just pamper yourself with the kind of treat you deserve!
